Nothing changes when we wait. With the will and the way, we can RESET Louisiana’s future.
It’s only two sentences, but in many ways it’s the perfect summary of the RESET Louisiana initiative spearheaded by the Committee of 100, CABL, and PAR. It’s a nonpartisan effort to do what politicians don’t often want to do – focus on the issues that can truly move the needle to make Louisiana a better state for its people and more competitive in fostering economic growth.

This election year, Louisiana is at a crossroads. There’s a major election for governor and a big change is coming in the Legislature because of term limits. We’re also experiencing what has lately been a rare period of budget stability. All of this gives us the opportunity to focus not just on keeping the wheels from falling off of state government, but to implement changes that will actually move the state forward.
That won’t happen, though, if “we the people” don’t deliver that message to the candidates. We have to ask them what they’re going to do to fix our roads, better educate and train our workforce, and make our state’s fiscal policies more competitive. We have to ask them what they’re going to do to move Louisiana off the bottom.
Because if we’re not talking about the things that will make a difference and lift our state up the ladder, we’re having the wrong conversation. RESET is about moving us up the ladder.
So, what can an individual citizen do? You can ask the candidates for governor and especially the Legislature these same questions. Ask them if they’re satisfied with the status quo. Tell them that education, roads, smart approaches to public safety, and economic competitiveness are important to you. And let them know that the mandate from the people in 2019 is to begin to move the needle to make Louisiana better.
