COVID School Reopening Plans

The closure of schools in the spring of 2020 revealed many things about public education in Louisiana including a lack of transparency. Early in the pandemic, it was impossible to know how schools were responding to empty classrooms. Later, more information became available, but it was only on a statewide basis with few details involving individual school districts. Critically, key pieces of information were missing and there was no place citizens could go to understand what was happening at the school district level.

CABL has worked with the Louisiana Department of Education to create a template and portal to track and report key academic responses to COVID-19 at the school district level that will be posted here over the next few weeks.

CABL also produced a short, state-level briefing analyzing school reopening plans and survey responses that were submitted by school districts to the Louisiana Department of Education in late summer, just before the school year began. In those submissions they detailed their plans for instruction in both Phase 2 and Phase 3 of reopening.
